Welcome to Craighurst, Ontario – a picturesque community at one of the main entrances into the Township of Oro-Medonte. Located along the historical Penetanguishene Rd (County Rd 93), and Horseshoe Valley Road, where historic charm and rural traditions meet modern-day momentum.
Rich in history, the Craighurst 4 corners were originally known as Morrison’s 4 corners, after a local Inn keeper, providing hotel services for those travelling along the Penetanguishene Road. Running right through the heart of Craighurst, Penetanguishene Road was built in 1814, providing the first land route from the north side of Kempenfelt Bay to the historic naval establishment at Penetanguishene. By the 1830s Craighurst was a small community, earning its own post office in the 1850s. In the early 1900s families planted their roots growing traditions that would carry on for 100s of years in maple syrup production, farming, and local businesses.
Today, Craighurst has grown into a charming community known for its friendly and welcoming commercial spaces with a growing mix of local businesses. From 100-year-old traditional maple syrup farms like Steamy Kettle Surgar Bush, to country charm decor like Dwellings Home Decor, and tasty treasures like Loobies or Foodland, there is no shortage of beloved spots to visit.
