Film Production in the Township

Planning a production in Oro-Medonte? Before the cameras roll, make sure you’re prepared. Consider permits, insurance requirements, and any location-specific guidelines to ensure a smooth experience. Respecting local communities, protecting natural spaces, and coordinating with municipal staff are key to successful filming. Connect with us early to discuss your project and access resources that help bring your vision to life—while keeping Oro-Medonte beautiful and welcoming for all. There are a lot of supporting services available in the surrounding Cities of Orillia, Barrie & Midland to support filming.


Contact the Township Economic Development Officer – business@oro-medonte.ca your film liaison to share information about your plans to film in the Township. We can assist with introductions to local businesses, services and goods. Productions and locations need to make sure they are following current policies and procedures.

Interested in getting involved in the film and television industry right here in Oro‑Medonte? Local homeowners, businesses, farms, and property owners can register their locations with the Ontario Creates Location Library. The Library accepts submissions from those interested in making their properties available for filming, and there is no cost to participate. The Locations Library team is also available to help at locations@ontariocreates.ca.

Welcoming a production to your property can be an exciting and rewarding experience. It’s important to understand the process before signing any agreements to ensure a positive outcome for both you and the production team. We will do our best to offer guidance and support when working with production companies.

The Township will connect with local residents and businesses interested in supporting film and television productions. This includes everything from catering, accommodations, trades and construction services, to specialized skills in sound, special effects, and film — as well as individuals who may want to be considered for background roles.

Planning & Guidelines

  • Permits & Approvals – Ensure all required permits are secured, including film permits, road use, and public space permissions.
  • Insurance Requirements – Productions must provide proof of liability insurance as outlined in municipal guidelines.
  • Community Impact – Notify nearby residents and businesses of filming dates, times, and any potential disruptions and shouldn’t disrupt or imped on residential or local business day to day activities.
  • Traffic & Parking – Coordinate road closures, traffic control, and parking for production vehicles in compliance with local by-laws keeping traffic disruptions to a minimum. The film production company is responsible for notifying emergency services of any closed or partial closed roadways.
  • Noise & Special Effects – Adhere to noise by-laws and obtain approvals for pyrotechnics or other special effects.
  • Environmental Responsibility – Protect natural spaces and dispose of waste responsibly to maintain Oro-Medonte’s beauty. Best efforts should be made to donate back to the local community any materials that would otherwise be disposed of following the completion of filming.
  • Safety & Accessibility – Ensure sets and equipment do not block sidewalks or create hazards, and maintain accessibility for all.
