Community Safety and Well-Being Plan
The Province's Safer Ontario Act, 2019 (Part XVI) requires municipalities to develop a Community Safety and Well-Being Plan using the provincial government's Community Safety and Well-Being Framework.
Under the leadership of the County of Simcoe’s Emergency Management and Social Services Departments, the Township of Oro-Medonte worked in partnership with the City of Orillia and the Townships of Ramara and Severn to develop its first Community Safety and Well-Being Plan (CSWP) which was adopted by Township Council on May 26, 2021.
Working with the same municipal partners, The Couchiching Community Safety and Well-Being Plan was refreshed and presented and adopted by Township Council on June 11, 2025.
The 2025-2029 CSWP was developed with consideration of the following key inputs:
- Review and assessment of progress and lessons learned since 2021;
- Documentation and data review;
- Engagement with key service providers and organizations;
- An on-line survey of residents and providers; and
- Interactive strategy sessions with area and county-wide service providers.
Three priority areas have been identified as the focus for the refreshed CSWP with four strategies to guide implementation efforts. These priorities are:
- Housing/Homelessness
- Mental Health and Addition
- Access to Services and Supports
Progress updates will be provided to Council on a regular basis through Council Meetings.
