Emerald Ash Borer

Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) has killed millions of trees in Ontario since 2002. EAB was first discovered in Simcoe County in 2013 and in the Township of Oro-Medonte in 2014. It poses a major economic and environmental threat with the Township now feeling its effects.

Emerald Ash Borer infestation is inevitable, however the Township is taking proactive measures to protect its roadways and community from damage due to fallen and potentially infected trees. Trees marked with an “X” are considered infected and will be removed in an effort to address the potential public safety hazards.

While the Township removes selected trees from its properties, Oro-Medonte residents and business owners are reminded that it is their responsibility to manage or remove trees on their own properties.

Contact Operations staff at (705) 487-2171 for further details about current removal areas. More information about Emerald Ash Borer can be found at www.simcoe.ca/eab.
