Sound Management Process

In 2016, the Township conducted a comprehensive sound monitoring program.  Based on the information gathered and findings, sound levels and times for the WayHome and Boots and Hearts festivals are included in the 2017 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), along with controls for enforcement.  

Township of Oro-Medonte Municipal Law Enforcement Officers and an acoustical engineer will be monitoring sound levels to ensure compliance. Compliance will be enforced by Township staff in accordance with the 2017 MOU.  

For sound level concerns, leave a message at 705-487-4025 with your name, phone number, street address, time of call and brief description. Staff will investigate your concern and will return your call only where required. For these concerns DO NOT call 9-1-1, that service is for emergencies only.

Notice of Collection

All personal information is collected pursuant to The Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, and will be used for the purpose of administering the 2017 Sound Management process for Burl's Creek Festivals and may be used in Council deliberations. Sound Management Update

As part of the sound management process, monitoring was ongoing throughout the WayHome festival, both onsite at Burl’s Creek and other areas within the Township.  Monitoring will continue for the Boots and Hearts Festival and the Big Feastival. In accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding the Township’s acoustical consultant will peer review the data and information collected. Third party acoustical engineers are required to provide the sound monitoring data to the Township by September 20, 2017.  At this time, the Township has not received all of the data and information from all sources for the WayHome Festival.

Part of the sound management process enabled residents to provide sound concerns. Every concern received through the dedicated phone line and email during the WayHome festival was reviewed by Township Municipal Law Enforcement Officers.  Municipal Law Enforcement Officer attended locations onsite and off-site throughout the WayHome Festival investigating concerns. For those individuals that called and emailed the municipality through the sound management process, follow-up communications is being drafted and will be sent out as soon as possible.

Any potential actions will be finalized before the expiry date of the Memorandum of Understanding.
