Special Event Management Process


Council Authorizes 2017 Special Event Permits for Burl’s Creek

On July 21, 2017, Township Council authorized two special events permits to Burl's Creek Event Grounds with conditions. One permit is for the 2017 WayHome festival (July 28-30) and the other permit is for the 2017 Boots and Hearts festival (Aug. 10-13). 

The permit for WayHome was issued on compliance with fulfilling the requirements of the Special Events By-law and Memorandum of Understanding.

The permit for the Boots and Hearts festival will be reviewed following the WayHome festival to ensure conditions are met.

Operational Plans and Public Safety

The Township’s Special Event Management Process requires that every property owner/special event organizer submit an Operational Plan. BCEG Inc. and Republic Live submitted Operational Plans for the 2017 WayHome and Boots and Hearts festivals.

These plans outline how the two companies will manage public health and safety concerns such as traffic, security, emergency services, food services and safety, and water/wastewater.

Special Event Manual

The special event manual was developed by the Township to help property owners, event organizers and other parties comply with the Township’s Special Events Management Process.

Special Event By-law

The purpose of the Township’s special events by-law is to “ensure cooperation among the various agencies involved in and affected by special events in order to:

  • Enhance the quality of life for residents
  • Further tourism and economic development
  • Protect public health and safety and
  • Minimize unnecessary disruptions in the community.
