Street Sweeping

Now that the snow has gone, Transportation Services will be carrying out the annual Spring Street Sweeping Program to clean streets of sand and other debris deposited during winter control.  Spring street sweeping improves water quality and the environment by removing pollutants that can be transferred to downstream water bodies through runoff.

Sweeping usually starts in mid-April, but operations can begin in early April, weather permitting. The sweeping operations are expected to be completed by May 15th, weather permitting. Sand that is picked up during sweeping operations is either disposed of at the landfill site, which is used for covering waste, or it is re-piled at our sand storage areas for reuse the following winter.

To help us provide the best service possible, please do not push sand into piles on the road as the sweepers are designed to sweep only normal build-up of sand on the curb edge. Please leave sand in its normal state, at the road's edge so the sweepers can pick it up easily.

If you should have any questions regarding this year’s Spring Street Sweeping Program, please contact Transportation Services at 705-487-2171.
