Committee of Adjustment

The Committee of Adjustment is a committee of persons appointed by Council to deal with some planning matters. The Committee will holds hearings and makes decisions on Minor Variance, Severance and Easement applications. The Committee meets the third Thursday of every month. The process takes two months from application, to hearing and decision, to end of appeal period. It is a public process wherein neighbours within 60 meters of the subject property are notified. A sign is also posted on the site for identification to the general public. The public and the applicant have an opportunity to address the Committee at the hearing. Staff also makes a recommendation to the Committee. The Committee weighs all information presented and makes a decision at the hearing. The Committee may decide to approve, deny, or defer the application. There is a 20 day appeal period once the notice of decision is given wherein anyone who presented at the hearing may appeal the decision to the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB).
